RYA Radar Operator Course

This course aims to provide people with the knowledge to use Radar as a navigation aid, and for collision avoidence. The IRPCS state that if you carry a Radar on your vessel, you must know how to operate it. This course will teach people how to setup, use and interpret a Radar image.

  • Course Type: Theory and Practical
  • Required Experience: None
  • Assumed Knowledge: A basic understanding of radar function
  • Course Content: Uses of Radar, Radar Setup, Orientation, Radar plotting and the common errors. ARPA. Radar Reflectors
  • Ability After Course: Be able to use Radar as a navigation aid, and to plot possible target collisions
